William E. “Bill” Carney, age 62, of Jackson, Ohio passed away on February 24th, 2025, after a short battle with a rare, aggressive cancer. Bill was born February 24th, 1963, in Oak Hill, Ohio to the late Bobby J. and Nancy (Schwab) Carney.
Bill was a 1981 graduate of Oak Hill High School. He was a hard worker and through the years worked at several companies including the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio, the Federal Railroad Administration, Kenworth, and with the Atomic Plant.
Bill was a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force from 1983-1987 as a Sergeant. He also served in the U.S. Army as a Sergeant from 2006-2016. During his time in the military, he served his country in both the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts. He eventually retired from active duty but served as Staff Sergeant with the Ohio Army National Guard from 2016-Present.
He was an endowed member of the Mason Portland Lodge #366 F&AM and was a lifetime member of VFW Post #27.
Perhaps his greatest quality was his generosity and his heart of service to others. He had an infectious smile. Bill loved his cars, but one of his greatest loves was children and he was known to many as “Uncle Bill.”
Bill is survived by his sisters, Jeannie (Dana) Exline of Jackson, Ohio, Cindy Carney Weatherholt of Ashland, Kentucky, and Anita (David) Carney Peyton of Morehead, Kentucky; brother, Brian (Christina) Carney of Ankeny, Iowa; stepmother, Connie Carney; nieces and nephews: Levi (Ann) Exline, Alex (Kerrigan) Exline, Olivia Weatherholt, Beckett Weatherholt, Annabelle McNeal, Lilah McNeal, Miles Carney, and Natalie Carney; great niece, Indy Exline; great-nephew, Grafton Exline; and special friends, Nick and Rhonda Elliott and family.

Worked with Bill at the Jackson County Sheriff Auxiliary in the 90s. He was a lot of fun to work with. Just a real nice guy! So sorry to hear of his passing as such an early age. - Barney Goodwin
