Thomas Lee Shaffer, age 73, passed away March 19th, 2025 at Holzer Medical Center. Thomas was born February 17th, 1952 in Akron, Ohio to Earl and Gathel (Barnett) Shaffer.
Thomas grew up in Meigs County, Ohio. He graduated from Meigs High School in 1970 and enlisted in the US Army where he did active duty in the Vietnam war. Upon completion of his tour of duty he was stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas where he married Becky Davis and together they had four children. They later divorced. In 1997 he married Mary Harrison of Oak Hill, Ohio. Thomas gained three more children and together they had one son. Thomas worked as a mechanic and in facility maintenance prior to his retirement. He enjoyed spending time with family, cheering on the Ohio State Buckeyes, and was an avid fisherman in his early years.
Thomas is survived by his wife of 27 years, Mary Shaffer; eight children: Nikki (Troy) Young of Abilene, Kansas, Kyle (DeDe) Shaffer of Schoenchen, Kansas, Tomie Weltha of Abilene, Kansas, Brian (Kim) Harrison of Oak Hill, Ohio, Jessica Harrison of Oak Hill, Ohio, Beth Gist of Wichita, Kansas, Erik (Rhiahna) McGhee of Jackson, Ohio, and Luke Shaffer of Cincinnati, Ohio; brother, Robert Shaffer; sister-in-law, Theresa Shaffer; 16 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Belinda Nease; and mother-in-law, Juanita Miller.
Visitation will be held at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home in Oak Hill on Sunday, March 23, 2025, from 12PM-2PM with a service immediately following at 2PM. A graveside service at Horeb cemetery will follow. Online condolences may be sent to www.lewisgillum.com
