Susan Elaine (Cooper) Hart, age 65, of Pomeroy, Ohio, passed away suddenly on Sunday, April 7, 2024, after a long battle with multiple illnesses.

She was born on Feb. 22, 1959, in Norfolk, Virginia -- the daughter of Phyllis Marie (Adkins) Cooper and the late Kenneth Cooper, who passed away May 2, 2000.

She is survived by her loving husband, Jack Hart; the pride of her life, her daughter, Rachel Hart, of Jackson; her younger sister, Pamela (Cooper) Wilson (and husband, Pete); her mother, Phyllis Cooper, a resident of Jenkins Care Community in Wellston; uncles and aunts, Bob Puckett, Jules Adams, Ruth Adkins, Bobbie Adkins, and Winnie Cooper; several cousins; and fur-baby, “Podrick.”

Susan was raised along with her sister in a military family, as their father was a U.S. Navy career man (Machinist Mate Chief) and lived in several different states until their father’s retirement in the early 1970s, settling in Jackson County, the ancestral base of their many relatives.

Susan attended The University of Rio Grande, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in English Language & Literature. This was also where she first met the man who would later become her husband, Professor Jack Hart. She cherished all members of her family, both immediate and extended, and will be missed and fondly remembered by all.

A “Celebration of Life” gathering will be held for family and friends with refreshments provided courtesy of Twinkleberries Coffee on Sunday, April 14, starting at 1 p.m., with the service at 2 p.m., at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home in Oak Hill (202 W. Maple St.) with Pastor Stan Howard officiating. Guests will be invited to share a special memory of Susan if they wish.
