Shirley Ann (Hamilton) Anderson passed away April 26th, 2025, at the age of 89. She was born July 17th, 1935, to the late Carl “Bud” and Laura (Shakstad) Hamilton.


Shirley attended The Ohio State University studying Art & Design. She worked for The Columbus Citizen and Channel 10TV station WBNS. She later took a job at North American in Columbus, Ohio where she met and married Philip Anderson. After having moved to Youngstown, New York for Phil’s job, the family moved back to Ohio when he took a job at the Atomic Plant in 1979. Shirley then started working in the ad department for Stiffler’s Department Stores.


Later, Shirley started making miniatures of the historical buildings in Jackson and participating in local craft shows. She was a very talented artist as well as an athlete. During high school she played softball. She also enjoyed roller skating, ice skating, water skiing, square dancing, and especially bowling.


Shirley was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Jackson, working every year at the apple festival fudge booth. She was a member of the Garden Club, Newcomer’s Club, and the Bunco Bunch.


She is survived by her daughter, Dr. Valerie Anderson; brothers, Richard “Dick” Hamilton and Charles “Skip” Hamilton; nieces and nephews: Dorothy, Butch, Ellen, Debbie, Marilyn, Rick, Gary, Tom, Mike, Joe, Gloria, Kim, Barb, and Lisa;  Anderson family cousins: Laura Brown, Lorna Aaddi, and Barb Cannon ; cousins: Steve and Scott Blair, Ashley and (Paul) Schuiteman, and Robert Cannon; and several great-nieces and nephews.


Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Philip A. Anderson; her son, Bradley Arthur Anderson; brother, Robert “Bob” Hamilton; and cousin, Richard Cannon.


Shirley is tremendously missed and leaves a long-cherished life behind her. She was kind to every soul that crossed her path.


Visiting hours will be held on Friday, May 2nd, 2025, from 4PM-7PM at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Jackson. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 3rd, 2025, at 2PM with Rev. John Birkner officiating at the First Presbyterian Church, 225 Church Street, Jackson, OH 45640. Calling hours will be held at the church immediately prior from 1PM-2PM.
