Joyce Beatrice (Hayes) (Whitt) Slaven, age 91, passed away on January 30th, 2022, in Grove City, Ohio. She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, wife, and friend who will be truly missed. She was an excellent cook and always had a homemade meal from scratch on the table for her loved ones. She loved to crochet and spent countless hours making blankets for her grandchildren when she was able. She loved being visited by her “grand-dog” Trigger, who would often jump in her lap. She most enjoyed spending time and talking with her loved ones. Joyce was born in Mallory, West Virginia on August 23rd, 1930.
Joyce is survived by her son, Vernon “Bud” (Roylene) Whitt of Springdale, West Virginia; son in law, Jeff (Ruth) Dixon of Grove City, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Christie Dixon, Jeffrey (Bianca) Dixon, Breanne (Cecil) Whitmer, Matt (Christina) Whitt, Rebecca (Brian) Burgess, Christopher (Jacklyn) Whitt, and Leah (Melissa) Whitt, eight great-grandchildren, Victoria Dixon, Anthony Dixon, Gavin Dixon, Morgan Hay, Matthew Whitt, Ashlynn Whitt, Zemberlyn Whitt, and Steele Whitt; one great-great grandchild, Everleigh Whitt; and several step-children, nieces, nephews, and sister-in-law.
She is preceeded in death by her parents, Frank and Effie (Browning) Hayes; her husband of 38 years Louis Whitt; husband of 10 years, Harry “Mac” Slaven; daughter, Mary (Whitt) Dixon; son, David Whitt; 2 brothers, Sam Grimmett and Joe Hayes; and 4 sisters, Pat Short, Inis VanHoose, Gladys Evans, and Nancy Dillon.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 2nd, 2022, at 1PM at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Oak Hill. Graveside services will follow at Centerpoint Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.lewisgillum.com..
