Jerry “Beak” Canter, age 73, of Pyro, Ohio passed away at Holzer Medical Center in Jackson, Ohio on May 24th, 2023. He was born a triplet along with a sister, Joan and brother, Gene on June 19th, 1949, to the late James and Evelene (Swann) Canter.


Jerry spent his entire life in the Pyro community near Oak Hill, Ohio. Jerry was well-known for his love of airplanes, playing music, and just being plain ornery. He proudly served in the U.S. Army, serving two tours in Vietnam. He also worked for the village of Oak Hill for several years performing many different jobs, including axillary police officer. He later retired from Wal-Mart in Jackson.


Jerry is survived by his children, Kenny (Jamie) Canter and Scott (Kerry) Canter; grandchildren: Kayla (Josh) Bronosky, Devin Canter, Torie (Kyle) Sinnock, Erin Canter, Ani Canter, Kenny Canter Jr., Christopher (Cierra) Piguet, and Brittney Piguet (Codey Strawn); great-grandchildren: Gracelynn, Kyler, Cole, Blake, Charlotte, Josh, Chase, Connor, Harrison, and Silas; sister, Carol (Canter) Potter; nephew, Brandon Potter; and brother-in-law, Lisle Dill.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by infant brother, Gene Canter; sister, Joan (Canter) Dill; brother-in-law, Ivan Potter; nephew, Ryan Potter, and best friend, Carl Ball.


The family would like to say a special thank you to his neighbors, Rick and Misty Farley for all the help they provided Jerry with over the years.


Per his wishes, he will be cremated and no public services will be held. The family will hold a private graveside service with military honors at C.M. Cemetery at a later date.
