Janice Marie (Hill) Carter, passed away on September 28, 2024, after a two-year battle with cancer.  Janice was born February 7, 1942, in the home of her parents, the late Jesse and Bessie (Davis) Hill, near the bridge of Buckeye Furnace. 

 

Janice attended Berlin school and Wellston High School.  After attending school, she married the late Harold Carter of Oak Hill.  Janice and Harold were blessed with three daughters, Karen (Dale) Gilliland, Linda McNeal and Sherry (Daryl) Dempsey, all of Oak Hill; she is the grandmother of eight grandchildren: Angela Thomas, Samantha (Chad) Russ, Kelli (Josh) Butler, Jodi (Mark) Barnett, Lindsay (Michael) Stephens, Dirk (Kristen) Dempsey, Matthew (Sidney) Gilliland, and Carlee (Zach) Roberts.  She was also blessed with fifteen great grandchildren and one great great grandson; she also leaves behind three sisters: Madge Hill, Phyllis (Phil) Henneman, and Mary Ramsey, all of Wellston; one brother, Wade (Judy) Hill, of Jackson; sister-in-law, Carolyn Hill, of Wellston; and brother-in-law, Marlin Carter, of Defiance, Ohio; and several nieces, nephews, and friends. 

 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Carter; father and mother-in-law, Roy and Luella (Staten) Carter; brother, Richard Hill; son-in-law, Sam McNeal; brothers and sisters-in-law, Neil Morath, Roger Ramsey, Wilma Napper, Wanda Dillinger, Margaret Hardin, and Marilyn Shope. 

 

Janice loved spending time with her family, and will always be fondly remembered for her cooking, especially her homemade noodles and cakes.  She also made wedding gowns and prom dresses.  She had many artistic and crafting talents and was a 4-H advisor for forty plus years.  She will be loved, remembered and missed by many. 

 

Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 1, 2024, from 4-8 PM at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home in Oak Hill.  Funeral services will follow on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at 1:00 PM with Pastor Larry Boggs officiating.  Burial will follow in C.M.
