Geraldine “Gerry” (Davis) Bowman, age 85, of Jackson, Ohio passed away Friday, November 3rd, 2023, at the Four Winds Community of Jackson. She was born May 8th, 1938, in Jackson, Ohio to the late Tom and Elvary (Jacobs) Davis.


Gerry is survived by her son, Anthony J. (Robin) Henderson of St. Joseph, Louisiana; her step-children of 43 years, Marsha Bowman Mutter, Rick (Kara) Bowman, and Michele Bowman Jayjohn all of Jackson, Ohio; step-grandchildren: Roshel Bowman, Chad Bowman (Whitley Arthur), Katie Jo (Tommy) Gray, Casey Bowman, Connor (Becca) Bowman, Erick (Courtney) Jayjohn, and Barrett Jayjohn; as well as twelve step-great-grandchildren.


In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Bowman and step-son-in-law, James Mutter.


Gerry was a graduate of Jackson High School. She furthered her education at Indiana University from which she obtained her B.A. and M.A. in Art Education. She was a gifted teacher, musician, and artist. She was a dedicated teacher for most of her life; primarily teaching art at Central High School in Evansville, Indiana and then teaching the TAG (talented and gifted) program within the Jackson City Schools.


Gerry received multiple excellence in teaching awards, including being inducted into the Ohio University Gifted Education Hall of Fame on May 18th, 2006. She was a classically trained operatic soprano singer and piano player. She was also a gifted jeweler, with work in the collection of the Evansville, Indiana Museum.


She was a very active member of the Southern Hills Art Council on which she also served on the board. She was also instrumental in the development of the Markay Cultural Arts Center.


The family would like to thank Tammy, Crystal, Patty, Eric, Kathy, and all her caregivers for their help over the last several years.




In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to The Southern Ohio Arts Council/The Markay Cultural Arts Center, 269 E Main Street, Jackson, OH 45640.


Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, November 8th, 2023, from 11-2PM at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Jackson. Funeral services will immediately follow at 2PM with Pastor Stan Howard officiating. Burial will follow at Fairmount Cemetery.
