Freida Carol Garland, age 85, joined her husband and son whom she missed dearly on Wednesday, January 22nd, 2025. Freida passed away with her daughter by her side at The Grove at Oakleaf of Columbus, Ohio. Freida was born December 15th, 1939, in Oak Hill, Ohio to the late George and Emma (Miller) Damron.
Freida was a voracious reader who learned to read later in life with the help of her loving husband. Together they owned and later donated hundreds of books to their local Crescent City library. Freida was actively involved in community service including belonging to the board at the Crescent City Florida Library and holding various offices through the years in the Women’s Club of Crescent City.
She was a faithful woman of God. Together with her husband, Freida enjoyed traveling while often serving others in mission work in various locations. They enjoyed taking walks together and spending time with their family. Freida loved her grandchildren fiercely and raised a daughter who was proud to call Freida her mother.
Freida is survived by her sister, Charlene Hewitt; daughter, Lisa Garland; daughter-in-law, Wendy Garland; grandson, Lucas Smoot; granddaughter, Olivia Garland; best friend, Brenda Dameron; and nephews: Michael Hewitt, Steven Hewitt, Jay Damron, Rich Yerby, and Randy Yerby.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David Garland; son, David Scott Garland; and siblings, Donna Spriggs, Vernon Damron, Delia Yerby, and Jerry Damron.
