Evelyn Sue “Suzy” Long, age 57, of Gallipolis, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 30, 2021 at Holzer Medical Center in Gallipolis surrounded by her family. She was born December 26, 1963, in Ironton, Ohio to the late August “Wayne” and Patricia (Roach) Keels.
She is survived by her junior high sweetheart and husband of 37 years, Randall Long; daughters, Stephanie (Christian) Scott, Vanessa (Derek) Wilson, Lexi Long, all of Gallipolis; grandchildren, Jarrell, Linae and Kierra Scott, Lamiyah and Travon Wilson, all of Gallipolis; sister, Missy (Steve) Miller, of Columbus; mother-in-law, Juanita Long, of Jackson; brother-in-law, Boonie Long, of Jackson; niece and nephews, Eliana, Braden and Lucas Miller, all of Columbus. Also surviving are other extended relatives and many friends.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her grandson, Lashawn Wilson and her grandmother who was her namesake, Evelyn Roach.
Suzy graduated from Oak Hill High School in 1982 where she played the clarinet in the marching band and sang in the chorus. She was a former Sunday School teacher and choir member, and was a member of Paint Creek Baptist Church. Suzy loved her family and especially enjoyed cooking for them, and they especially loved her chicken and noodles! She was a certified in-home childcare provider, and worked at the French City Daycare and Rio Grande Child Development Center for many years.
Friends may call Thursday, October 7, 2021 from 4-8 PM at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Oak Hill. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 8, 2021 at 11:00 at Paint Creek Baptist Church, 833 third Ave., Gallipolis, Ohio 45631 with Pastor Christian Scott officiating. Friends may call at the church from 10:00-11:00 on Friday. Wearing a mask is appreciated on Friday to observe church policy. Burial will follow in Pine St. Cemetery.
