Elizabeth (Potter) Thompson, born in Oak Hill, Ohio, on August 26th, 1960, to Irvin and Joyce (Tolliver) Potter passed from this earth to rest in paradise on January 14th, 2025, after a hard-fought battle against cancer. Elizabeth was surrounded by her loving husband, Dennis, her beloved mother, Joyce, siblings, and a host of family members.
Elizabeth is survived by her husband, Dennis Thompson; her mother, Joyce (Tolliver) Potter; grandsons, Brayden White and Brodie Smith; sisters, Debbie (Larry) and Kay (Greg) Anderson; brothers, Richard (Melissa) and Duane (Jenifer) Potter; sisters–in-law, Mary Clarke and Kelli Potter; brothers-in-law, Dale Thompson, Glen (Carol) Thompson, and Charles Clarke; nephews, Matt Smith, Cody (Brittany) Potter, Aaron Thompson, and Ryan (Ryley) Clarke; great-nephew, Cooper Sollars; nieces, Kayla Smith, Brittani Potter, and Shelbi (Dillon) O’Bryan; and great-niece, Camryn Sollars.
Elizabeth is preceded in death by her beloved father, Irvin Potter; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Orville & Marjorie Thompson; grandparents, Sherman and Augie (Reynolds) Potter and Ervin and Jane (Wright) Tolliver; uncles, Clyde Potter, James Potter, Owen Potter, and Berie Miller; aunts, Emma Miller, Martha Potter, Janice Potter, and Mattie Potter; sister-in-law, Faith Thompson; along with several cousins she loved dearly.
Elizabeth was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ at Pyro. Elizabeth loved her God and personal Savior Jesus Christ.
Elizabeth married Dennis Thompson December 21st,1996. Elizabeth was a loving wife and an amazing mamaw, always putting Dennis and Brayden first in everything.
She was a 1978 graduate of OHHS and of the University of Rio Grande nursing school. As a registered nurse, Elizabeth loved caring for all her patients, especially the elderly. She was always eager to share her knowledge of nursing with younger nurses, helping in any way that she could.
Elizabeth was a PTO member at Brayden’s school and provided him and numerous classmates with events and activities she organized herself. She also loved volunteering at the Ross County fair for many years where she has won many blue ribbons for her amazing foods she baked and canned. Elizabeth loved cooking and baking for family and friends.
She also enjoyed watching Brayden play sports and she loved taking care of his classmates and friends. They all adored her and knew how much she loved them. Elizabeth never met a child she didn’t love and care for as if they were her own and their love of Elizabeth was enormous.
Elizabeth’s family would like to thank the National Church Residences nurses and social workers for their care and heartfelt comfort for Elizabeth and all her family.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Lewis & Gillum Funeral home in Oak Hill. Calling hours will be held on Monday, January 20th, 2025, from 4-8PM. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, January 21st, 2025, at 1PM with Minister Allen Potter officiating. Burial will immediately follow at C.M. Cemetery of Oak Hill.
