Alan Hughes, age 71, passed away on Saturday, June 15th, 2024, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in High Point, NC. Alan was born on April 12, 1953, to the late Miles and Minnie Hughes and lived nearly his entire life in Oak Hill, Ohio.
Alan was the devoted husband of Sharon Hughes (Howell), with whom he shared 51 years of marriage. Together, they raised two children: Charity Hughes Wisecup and Joshua Hughes. Alan was also the proud grandfather to Avery Hughes, Anna Hughes, and Ace Hughes, all of whom are the children of Joshua and Tracey Hughes.
One of Alan's greatest joys was flying radio-controlled airplanes, a hobby that he passionately pursued as an active member of the Jackson R/C Aces. Alan also enjoyed spending time with his nephews; Jason Hughes, who often helped with household projects, and Randy Hughes, who assisted him in fixing and restoring vehicles.
Above all, Alan’s greatest love was for his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. His faith was a guiding light throughout his life, providing him with strength and comfort. Because of this faith, Alan is now reunited in Heaven with his parents, Miles and Minne Hughes, his brothers, Bob and Myles Hughes, a stillborn sister, and a grandchild. He is survived by his sisters-in-law Virginia Hughes and Shelby Hughes.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, June 21, 2024 at Bethel Cemetery with Pastor Thom Mollohan officiating. Arrangements are being handled by Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Oak Hill. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made in Alan's memory to the Jackson County Animal Shelter. Online condolences may be sent to www.lewisgillum.com.
