Ruby Yates, age 84, of Jackson, passed away peacefully at Riverside Methodist Hospital on Friday, August 28, 2020. Ruby was born in Oak Hill on September 30, 1935 to the late Clarence and Gertrude (Crabtree) Adkins.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Ira Yates; her granddaughter, Kaysey Adkins; siblings, Clarence Adkins, Carl Adkins, Robert Adkins, Virginia Trapp, Wilma Dillon and Vicki Adkins; stepson, Carl Yates, and daughter-in-law, Selma Yates.
Ruby is survived by her three sons, Jeff (Rebecca) Adkins, Floyd (Kim) Yates and Bryan Yates, all of Jackson; grandchildren, Ally (Dana) Marks, Floyd Yates III, Kari Beth Yates, Jeffrey Adkins, Bryan Yates II, Michael Stevens, Austin Malone and Julie Malone; great grandchildren, Everlee Rhea, Gracie Lee Yates, Remington, Garrick and Lexi Marks, Hannah, Shane, Mason and Gunner Pennington. She is also survived by her siblings, Ted Adkins, Gary Adkins, Paul Adkins, Juanita Smith and Connie Carney, and several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
After the death of her husband, Ruby went back to school to obtain her GED and then went on to become an LPN, all while raising her three sons. Ruby was an LPN at Heartland and Four Winds nursing homes. She was loved by the residents and the families as she went above and beyond for her patients. Ruby was a bright light for all that loved her and will be greatly missed.
Friends may call Monday, August 31, 2020 from 4-8 PM at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Jackson. Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Tuesday, September 1, 2020 at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery. Per CDC guidelines and governor recommendations, everyone is asked to wear a mask while indoors and practice proper social distancing procedures and guidelines.
