Lawana (Straight) Hammond, age 79, of Patriot, passed away Friday, February 22, 2019 at her home. She was born Lawrence county, Ohio to the late Garnett and Darlene (Nance) Straight.

She is survived by her sons, Ron (Lori) Hammond, of Gallipolis and Randy (Michelle) Hammond, of Patriot; grandchildren, Amanda (Michael) Boggs, Amber (Brandon) Tiller, Samantha (Ryan) Klingaman, Emily Hammond, Abby Hammond and Miranda (Matt) Jenkins; great grandchildren, Tyler, Maxton, Paisley and Eden; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Also surviving are her sisters, Ruth Whitt, Patty Hale, Eugena (David) White, Juanita Roach and Brenda Burnette; and close friend, Mary Maxson.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Donald Lewis Hammond; great granddaughter, Lucy Tiller; and brothers, Junior and Gene Straight.

Lawana retired from Gallia County Local Schools where she worked as a librarian. She was a member of the Gallia Baptist church and the Greenfield Crime Watch.

Friends may call Monday, February 25, 2019 from 4-8 PM at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Oak Hill. Funeral services will be held at the Gallia Baptist Church 11:00 AM Tuesday, February 26, 2019. Burial will follow in Gallia Baptist Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Gallia Baptist Church, 799 Wagoner Rd., Patriot, Ohio 45658 in her memory.
